£360k defender joins top-flight club after Wolves transfer deadline
Wolves let one of their players go after the transfer deadline, but it had no effect on their performance on Tuesday night.
Despite the fact that the summer transfer window has closed, Wolves have permitted one of their players to depart the club.
The transfer window closed on Friday, September 1, but a few transactions were completed after the deadline. Dylan Sciculuna joined Western Sydney Wanderers on a free transfer on Saturday, while Matthew Whittingham was confirmed.
Earlier this week however another player departed Molineux. Christian Marques became the 23rd player to leave having joined Swiss outfit Yverdon-Sport for an undisclosed fee. Yverdon play in the Swiss Super League, the top-flight of football in Switzerland, and this week revealed Marques would be heading there.
The transfer window in Switzerland closed on Thursday, September 7, however his transfer was confirmed beyond the deadline with no problems. The 20-year-old is returning to Switzerland after four years with Wolves.
Marques captained Wolves’ under-18 and under-21 teams before joining from Grasshopper for a reputed £360k, according to The Athletic. He did not play for the senior team but was an unused replacement eight times.
He appeared in 70 games for their age-grade teams, scoring five goals and assisting on two others. Last season, he had loan spells at Forest Green Rovers and B SAD in Portugal.
Marques tweeted on Instagram after his move was confirmed, “New challenge very happy to be here and can’t wait to get started,” accompanied with a shot of him posing with his new gear.
Wolves issued a brief statement saying, “All at Wolves wish Christian the best of luck in the future.”
Despite losing Bueno, Wolves defeated Notts County 2-1 in their first EFL Trophy match. The young Wolves defeated League Two competition thanks to goals from Owen Hesketh and Nathan Fraser.
In other developments, Hugo Bueno made his Spanish under-21 squad debut on Monday night. The 20-year-old has been with Wolves since 2019 and has developed into an important element of Gary O’Neill’s defense.
