After Wolves’ pursuit, the 26-year-old could potentially agree to a new contract, which could include an £8.5 million buyout.

After failing to win a move to Wolves in the summer, defender Nico Elvedi is now expected to sign a contract extension with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Wolves were seriously considering signing Elvedi.

For weeks, the club had been linked with a move for him.
But the story was always that the Wolves couldn’t afford the Switzerland international.

Meanwhile, Gladbach did not play Elvedi in any matches to avoid jeopardizing any potential move.

But the player’s transfer never materialized, and he ended up staying put.

And it appears that he may now be staying for a little while longer…

Nico Elvedi is expected to sign a new deal with Borussia Monchengladbach.
According to BILD, Elvedi may be able to sign a new deal as soon as today.

Elvedi had previously stated that he did not wish to extend his contract with the German outfit.

Elvedi, on the other hand, stated last week that he is content at the club.

And it appears that he may now be able to prolong.

Elvedi is thought to have changed his mind and is now ready to devote his future to the club.

Interestingly, it is stated that a contract deal might have a relatively cheap release clause for the player of £8.5 million (GFNG).

Wolves may yet make a play for Elvedi in the future.

So it looks as though Elvedi could soon agree fresh terms with Gladbach, which is interesting considering he was seemingly very ready to leave in the summer.

Him agreeing a new deal would potentially be bad news for Wolves on the face of it, if there were plans to swoop. But if it’s true there could be an £8.5 million release clause, then that surely means there will be another opportunity to land him. It’s a pretty affordable clause, even for Wolves.

At least for now, Wanderers have been able bring in Santi Bueno, who the club have high hopes for.

Bueno was a player Wolves took an interest in at the start of the summer.

After funds became available through the sale of Matheus Nunes, he was ultimately chosen by the club over Elvedi.

The Wolves will be hoping that the Uruguayan can make an immediate impact. Because the Wolves have struggled defensively in their first two games.
