Everton might be in line for a £10 million windfall from a Liverpool icon.
Everton are on the verge of making their final sale of the summer.
Everton are on the verge of parting ways with Demarai Gray after Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq approached them. The Saudi Pro League transfer market will remain open until Thursday, giving clubs plenty of time to finalize deals before the attention moves entirely to the current season.
Over the summer, Saudi Arabia teams have been persistently recruiting as a group, and the Premier League has been their preferred shopping destination. The majority of players from England’s top division have moved on, and more transactions could be on the way as the window’s final hours approach.
Gerrard has already signed Jordan Henderson from his former club after taking over as manager of Al-Ettifaq in July. The two former Liverpool captains have reunited, while Anfield legend Georginio Wijnaldum has also been signed.
According to Mail Sports, a trip to the blue side of town is next on the schedule as Everton seek to cash in on Gray. The winger’s current contract at Goodison Park expires in less than a year, and a four-year extension worth £10 million is expected to be agreed upon and finalized today.
Gray has been open about his frustrations about his status at Everton, implying that he felt disrespected and disregarded under Sean Dyche. He recently vented his displeasure on Instagram, claiming that it is’so difficult to play for someone who doesn’t show you respect as a person.’
If all goes as planned, Gray will join the growing number of players who have chosen to sign with Saudi Pro League clubs this summer. The major pursuit, however, remains in the hands of Al-Ittihad, which is still looking for Mohamed Salah.

Everton and Demarai Gray have agreed on a multi-million pound exit deal, with only paperwork remaining after the announcement. Wednesday
According to Ben Jacobs, Everton have agreed a sum of £8 million with Al-Ettifaq for the sale of Demarai Gray.
The CBS Sports writer tweeted on Tuesday night (5 September) that just paperwork remains to be signed and that the transaction will be announced on Wednesday (6 September).
Gray is expected to sign a four-year contract with Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by ex-Liverpool player Steven Gerrard.
As we’ve been expecting Gray to leave Everton for Saudi Arabia over the last couple of days due to the Jamaica international childish antics on social media, it’s not a surprise to see him leave. However, have Everton managed to get a good fee for the former Leicester attacker? Everton signed Gray from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 for just £1.7million [Sky Sports]. In truth, that was a bargain and he’s more than repaid his worth by scoring 12 goals and supplying six assists in 75 appearances across all competitions.
And while the last two seasons have been wretched, Gray hasn’t exactly been amongst the worst-performing players as he’s always been somewhere in the middle. Everton are now bagging a £6.3million profit on Gray, which is decent considering our financial position and how desperate Gray was to leave. He was likely on a decent wage so clearing that off is also good news for Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright and co as it really eases up some of the pressure from FFP. Overall, we’re glad he’s gone.
