Barnsley and Burnley reach an agreement, but the transfer depends on a Chelsea departure.

According to James Savundra of Sky Sports, if Ian Maatsen joins the Clarets, Barnsley will borrow Owen Dodgson from Burnley.
As Neill Collins completes his first summer window in command at Oakwell, Barnsley is aiming to close several deals before tonight’s 11 p.m. deadline.

One planned augmentation, meanwhile, appears to depend on a hypothetical transaction further up the ladder.

The Tykes are expected to recruit Burnley defender Owen Dodgson on a loan, according to Sky Sports reporter Savundra, but only if Dutch star Ian Maatsen agrees to leave Chelsea and resume his successful tenure at Turf Moor from last season.

The choice to bring back Maatsen, who spent time with Mauricio Pochettino’s team in the early going of this season, is still up to the player, according to Matt Law after Fabrizio Romano’s initial claim that Burnley and Maatsen had struck an agreement.

waiting is a game
As is sometimes the case with moves, particularly this late in the window, Barnsley must wait anxiously to see whether circumstances beyond their control turn out as desired before they can finalize the Dodgson deal.

If the trade is made, he’d be a great addition on the left side. The 20-year-old primarily plays left back but can also move forward and play as a wing-back if necessary.

Dodgson spent the second part of the previous campaign with Rochdale, and a new loan would provide him a second chance to advance by giving him more consistent playing time away from Burnley.
