Leeds makes a last-minute attempt to recruit Brandon Thomas-Asante for $5 million. West Brom news
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United has made a last-minute bid to West Bromwich Albion for striker Brandon Thomas-Asante.
The Whites have contacted the Baggies with a request for Thomas-Asante, the newspaper said (1 September), after Stoke City had a £2 million deal rejected by Carlos Corberan’s team.
The ex-Salford star is valued at £5 million by West Brom, according to The Mail (1 September), but “no club” has gone close to meeting the asking price.
Unless Leeds agrees to the Baggies’ asking price, they have little chance of closing this transaction.
As they frequently do, West Brom will be anxious to add additional players on deadline day, but they will also want to keep Thomas-Asante.
Given that Willy Gnonto is reportedly close to joining Everton in the Premier League once again, Calcio Mercato reported (1 September), Leeds may be anticipating losing at least one forward player before the window closes.
Whites supporters are already familiar with Thomas-Asante’s abilities because the 24-year-old scored the game’s first goal in their Championship match on August 18; nevertheless, they are hoping he decides to go to Yorkshire.
Stoke City tried to make a deal, but it was quickly rejected since it fell well short of West Brom’s asking price. If Thomas-Asante comes to Leeds and the team gets the anticipated promotion, he may quickly rise up the divisions after scoring nine goals in all competitions at the Hawthorns last season.
The Baggies won’t feel pressured to offload him after only one season, but the money must come first right now.
In unrelated Leeds United news, a Whites player has left the organization after choosing between two other opportunities.
