West Ham now discussing trying to sign ‘elite’ Liverpool player, he wants more game time
West Ham United are weighing up a move to sign Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.
Gomez has become a key man for the Reds over recent days, with Virgil van Dijk’s red card and Ibrahima Konate’s injury thrusting him into the limelight.
But according to The Times, that light may not be hitting him in a Liverpool shirt for very much longer.
They claim that despite recent events putting him in the starting XI, Gomez isn’t satisfied with being fourth choice at Anfield. The 26-year-old reportedly wants more game time to put him back in England reckoning ahead of Euro 2024.
As a result, the Hammers interest appears to have been piqued. They are said to be ‘discussing’ testing Liverpool’s resolve with a bid.
He’s come in for heavy criticism for his drop in form over the past couple of seasons. But showings like that make it easy to see why he was once labelled as potentially ‘elite.’
If – as fans hope they do – Liverpool have a new signing lined up, then perhaps they may consider a bid from West Ham. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Saudi side Al Ittihad also like Gomez. If either want to make an offer though, it would have to be a big one.
Even then, a move feels unlikely. Klopp has always been a big fan of Gomez and he’d also have to factor in that the England international is also his current senior back-up at right-back.
So, from our point of view, West Ham can discuss this all they like. Unless Liverpool have something unexpectedly big in the pipeline in terms of incoming, it’ll be a short conversation with the Reds.

Exclusive: West Ham agree landmark signing, Announcement within hours
Sources: Alberto agrees West Ham move – announcement imminent
West Ham have agreed personal terms with Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto ahead of a permanent move, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed a full agreement and announcement could come within 24 hours with the Irons now putting the finishing touches on the deal.
Football Insider revealed back in July that West Ham were among three Premier League clubs plotting moves for the 22-year-old this summer.
Alberto has managed 10 goals and seven assists during the 2022-23 campaign for Corinthians.
His contract with the Brazilian giants is set to run until December 2027 as he only joined the club from Zenit St Petersburg in January.
The forward moved from his homeland to Russia in 2022, but that big-money move was cut short due to the war in Ukraine.
He managed six goals and four assists across 15 games in Russia – his first taste of European football.
In July 2022, Alberto returned to Brazil – where he has managed 53 goals in 174 games in spells for Santos, Corinthians and Internacional.
The forward made his senior international debut earlier this year, featuring as a substitute for the Selecao in a friendly against Morocco.
West Ham are continuing to push to improve their attack even after completing the signing of Mohammed Kudus from Ajax.
The Irons have also completed deals for James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez and Konstantinos Mavropanos this summer.
David Moyes’s side sit second in the Premier League following their 3-1 win over Brighton on Saturday (26 August).

West Ham now in talks to sign ‘classy’ £28m striker, Tottenham wanted him last month
WEST HAM NOW IN TALKS TO SIGN ‘CLASSY’ £26M GOAL MACHINE
West Ham United are exploring a late deal to sign Flamengo striker Pedro ahead of the transfer deadline later this week.
Flamengo striker Pedro is wanted at West Ham United with David Moyes targeting a late deal for a new striker.
That is according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, who reports that West Ham are trying to snap up Pedro.
It’s stated that the Hammers want to get Pedro signed up in a deal worth around £26million ahead of the transfer deadline.
West Ham are understood to have started talks with Flamengo in the hope of convincing them to sell Pedro this week.
The Hammers have sold Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta this summer whilst there are continued rumours about Michail Antonio’s future.
Even Danny Ings is being linked away from West Ham so we could yet see Moyes sign more than one striker this week.
Who is West Ham United target Pedro?
Pedro started out in the Flamengo ranks but left as a teenager, ending up with Duquecaxiense, Artsul and then Fluminense.
That’s where Pedro started to make a real name for himself, smashing 31 goals in 93 appearances for Fluminense.
Fiorentina pounced in 2019 but Pedro had a tough time in Italy, managing just four appearances and no goals.
Pedro headed back to Brazil, joining Flamengo on loan in 2020.
23 goals in 54 games saw Flamengo turn the move permanent and Pedro just hasn’t stopped scoring in red and black.
