Beto debut update emerges ahead of ‘crucial’ Everton clash with Sheffield United after medical started

Beto “should be an Everton player in good time” for the meeting with Sheffield United next weekend, according to The i.

The newspaper reported on their website Sunday evening (27 August) that the “powerful target man” is in line to be ready to face the Blades on 2 September as Sean Dyche looks to pick up his first points, and score his first goals, of the season.

The 25-year-old striker travelled to Merseyside for this Toffees medical on Sunday, which Sky Sports’ Alan Myers reported had started, after a £24million total deal was agreed with Udinese.

Dyche needs all the help he can get in front of goal right now, having kicked off the new campaign with three defeats to nil, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been struck down by yet another injury as his appalling luck continues.

Beto could become the fifth signing of the summer after Ashley Young, Arnaut Danjuma, Youssef Chermiti and Jack Harrison.

Can’t come fast enough

Calvert-Lewin was re-injured in the loss at Aston Villa on 20 August and is currently out with a broken cheek bone, leaving on-loan winger Danjuma and youngster Lewis Dobbin to try to fill the gap in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Saturday (26 August).

Fellow Portuguese arrival Chermiti made his debut off the bench, while Tom Cannon also came on late, but it was defender Micheal Keane who was thrown on alongside him as a makeshift striker, suggesting the manager’s patience has run out with the misfiring Neal Maupay.

Either way, none of the aforementioned players have been able to register so far this term, and nor have any of their teammates.

So with Beto, who scored 10 Serie A goals last season and 11 the campaign before, closing in on becoming the senior striker that Everton have searched for all year it would be a huge boost if he could come in and address the scoring deficiency straight away.

An injury crisis in attack, with Dwight McNeil and Alex Iwobi joining Calvert-Lewin on the sidelines, and fellow loanee Harrison not yet fit, has only added to the frustrations for Dyche.

So since Beto looks like he is going to be the man for the Toffees this summer the sooner he can be signed, registered, and training ahead of the next league game the better, with Everton already making up for lost time.
