Nottingham Forest ‘lining up bid’ for £30m France international

Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Reds target Monaco midfielder

Youssouf Fofana in action against Arsenal

Nottingham Forest are reportedly preparing a bid for Monaco star Youssouf Fofana despite the midfielder apparently having previously turning down a move.

Earlier this month, Forest were said to be readying a formal offer for the 24-year-old before the player “closed the door” on a move to the City Ground. Forest remain determined to sign a midfielder before the window closes on September 1.

According to the Daily Mail, the club are “lining up a bid” for Fofana. He is understood to be valued at £30million by the French outfit.

He has been an ever-present player for Monaco in the last three years. Prior to his move to Monaco, he helped Strasbourg win the Coupe de la Ligue and was a World Cup runner-up with France last year.

Having entered the final year of his contract at Stade Louis-II, Monaco could consider selling him. Previously speaking about his future, Fofana said in April: “Why not stay at Monaco? “Why can’t that be the case next season? And why not with me? Everyone is saying that it’s time to leave or say that I’m going to leave, but there are players in their prime playing at Lyon and Marseille.

“I’m not ruling anything out. Honestly, I’m the last person to think about my future.”

Elsewhere, Cooper is also keen to sign a full-back and a winger. Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares is being considered, while Forest face competition from Fulham for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Nottingham Forest receive enquiries for 31-year-old but there’s a problem

Nottingham Forest have received interest in Jonjo Shelvey from several clubs in the Championship this summer. However, there does appear to be a stumbling block in any attempt made by the Reds to offload the midfielder.

According to Darren Witcoop from Reach PLC, there is interest emerging in the 31-year-old. The player has trained with the B-Team this summer as he bids to keep himself fit ahead of a move away from the City Ground.

Shelvey joined Forest in the January transfer window. He didn’t cost the club a transfer fee but made just eight appearances for the club before a disagreement with Steve Cooper saw him banished from the senior ranks.

The experienced performer became unhappy ahead of a game at Liverpool in April. Despite producing an unbelievable error against Aston Villa in the game previous, he was disappointed at Cooper leaving him out of the starting eleven at Anfield. On that occasion, Cooper was pushed to the brink. He didn’t put Shelvey in his squad at all for the game at Liverpool and hasn’t called upon him ever since.
Now, Shelvey is available for transfer. Although enquiries have been forthcoming, it does look as though getting rid of him could prove tricky this month.

Forest receive interest in Shelvey but stumbling block remains

Earlier this summer, there was a bit of interest from Sheffield United. Now, however, they will surely go for other options after selling a few players and having some money to spend.

The big stumbling block is the player’s salary. He collects a whopping £75,000-a-week at the City Ground and clearly, that’s a huge problem for clubs in the Championship.

The Reds need to get rid of several players before the window closes. The squad is still quite bloated and it would appear that players will leave before more come in.

It would be great to get Shelvey away from the wage bill this month. Doing so might prove tricky though and hopefully the club will learn from the disastrous nature of this January deal.
