Harry Maguire ‘handed £6m payout’ to leave Man Utd as West Ham transfer nears
Manchester United are expected to hand Harry Maguire a significant pay-off to depart the Red Devils as he closes in on a £30million move to David Moyes’ West Ham
Harry Maguire has been handed a huge pay-off to leave Manchester United as he prepares to join West Ham.
The 30-year-old is set to make the switch to the London Stadium in a deal worth around £30million. David Moyes’ side reached an agreement in principle to sign Maguire on Wednesday after the Red Devils accepted a bid for the England international.
Moyes is keen to strengthen his side after losing Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105m and made their first signing of the summer in the form of Edson Alvarez from Ajax on Thursday. However, more are set to follow through the door, with James Ward-Prowse and Scott McTominay also linked.
Maguire is expected to be the latest to sign for West Ham and he could be available for their Premier League opener against Bournemouth if the deal sheet is completed on time. During his time at United, Maguire has made 175 appearances, although he fell down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag last season.
In fact, it has since been revealed that the Red Devils will hand Maguire a £6m pay-off to depart this summer, according to The Sun. Maguire will take a significant wage cut when his move to West Ham is confirmed and United will make a payment to the centre-back to help offset that.
Maguire had two years left to run on his £190,000 per-week contract at United. But the ex-Leicester centre-back will now earn £120,000 per-week at West Ham. This would put Maguire joint-third as the Hammers’ highest earner behind Lucas Paqueta (£150k per-week) and Danny Ings (£125,000 per-week).
The Hammers face Bournemouth on the opening weekend of the Premier League season and Maguire would need to be registered by 12pm on Friday to be available for selection. Should the deal go through, it would represent the first notable sale at United this summer, with more expected to leave.
Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Fred are among the others Ten Hag is willing to let go. None of the three, like Maguire, have established themselves in the United side since Ten Hag’s arrival in May 2022 and are therefore set to be sacrificed to pave the way for new recruits.
