CRYSTAL PALACE PAUSE PURSUIT OF LIVERPOOL TARGET AS £30M BID FAILS

Crystal Palace have not yet made an improved offer for Perr Schuurs while Premier League rivals West Ham United and Liverpool remain interested in the Serie A centre-back.

While there has been little movement around the Torino defender in recent times, that could still change as the window enters it’s final stages.

West Ham are looking to reinforce their rather injury-prone backline while prioritising a replacement for Declan Rice, with David Moyes hot on the heels of Harry Maguire as well as his Manchester United team-mate Scott McTominay.

There is, according to Calciomercato, interest from Perr Schuurs’ long-time admirers Liverpool too. Jurgen Klopp’s side have shipped goals at an alarming rate in pre-season. Schuurs, who’s agent confirmed an approach from the Anfield outfit before his move to Italy in 2022, would slot in nicely alongside fellow Dutchmen Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo.

As things stand, however, the biggest bid has come not from Liverpool or West Ham but from Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace fail with Perr Schuurs

The Eagles reportedly offered a club-record £30 million for Schuurs. They are also willing to hand the 23-year-old a contract until the summer of 2027 at Selhurst Park.

But with Torino holding out for £35 million, Crystal Palace have placed their pursuit on ‘pause’. Perhaps that has something to do with the fact that both Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen – after links with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United – look increasingly likely to stick around beyond the September deadline.

Newcastle, Fabrizio Romano reports, have spoken ‘multiple times’ with Andersen’s agents. A potential move to St James’ Park appears to not have progressed beyond that stage, however.

“Clubs of the calibre of Tottenham, Liverpool and PSG had moved to take the player,” Schuurs’ representative, George Gardi, said back in 2022.

“The operation was long. In addition to Liverpool, Tottenham, PSG, three Italian clubs also wanted Schuurs. However, having chosen a path, we went on to follow it without delay, with strong conviction.

“Thanks to Torino, I am sure Schuurs can become a pillar of the Dutch national team.”
