Dean Henderson will have a scan as Crystal Palace’s injury woes intensify
Debutant ejected from Carabao Cup loss to previous club
Dean Henderson, the goalkeeper for Crystal Palace, will undergo scans to establish the severity of the injury that derailed his start against Manchester United on Tuesday night.
Henderson was pulled off after only 19 minutes of his first start for Palace after joining the club for £20 million from United in the summer. The Eagles lost 3-0 to his previous team, sending them packing from the Carabao Cup.
Henderson had intended to stake a claim for the Palace No. 1 position, but Sam Johnstone replaced him and is now expected to miss some time. Roy Hodgson, the manager of Palace, stated: “Often we have to wait a day or two before they can even do the scan, so at the moment we just know that he had a very unfortunate end to a game that he was really looking forward to playing.”
Palace’s injury woes are becoming worse; they already had seven players out due to injuries, including winger Michael Olise and recent additions Jefferson Lerma and Matheus Franca.
The injury-hit Eagles produced a disappointing performance last night and return to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.
“Unless we can play better, it’s indicative [of what might happen]“, admitted a downbeat Hodgson.

The news was announced by the Palace manager following their 0-0 draw at Selhurst against Fulham. As reported by South London Press, he said: The Palace manager said, “Neither [are anticipated to return] in the next period of time.
“I highly doubt that either will be available before the international break, which won’t be for a few more weeks.
Even back then, Olise sustained a pretty serious injury while playing for France. We have to be extremely careful to avoid a scenario where he played a little bit earlier than necessary and triggered a similar ailment in the same location, as may have occurred to Wilf when he traveled to Turkey because it had a similar injury.
“It prevented Wilf from playing when he made his [Galatasaray] debut for three to four weeks. Olise and Franca are improving together.
“We are adhering to the physiotherapists’ and medical department’s directives. I don’t want to suggest that a player return early since that would make me accountable if something went wrong again and we were without him for an additional two months.
