West Ham United submit offer to sign Edson Alvarez

West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 25-year-old Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez from Ajax this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United have submitted a £30 million bid to sign Edson Alvarez from Ajax. The Hammers have already agreed personal terms with the Mexican international.

Edson Alvarez has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the past as well, and he should prove to be a quality acquisition for West Ham. The Hammers needed to bring in a quality replacement for club captain Declan Rice, who has joined Arsenal earlier this summer. And the Ajax midfielder emerged as a viable target.

Alvarez certainly has the quality to replace Rice and improve West Ham. The 25-year-old is versatile enough to operate as a defensive midfielder as well as a central defender. His versatility could prove to be an added bonus for the Hammers and David Moyes.

A £30 million offer seems quite reasonable for a player like Alvarez, and it remains to be seen whether  Ajax are prepared to sanction his departure. But widespread reports have suggested a higher asking price from the Dutch giants.

The 25-year-old has proven himself in the Eredivisie, and he will look to take the next step in his career. The opportunity to showcase his qualities in the Premier League will be an attractive proposition, and West Ham are certainly an enticing destination.

The Hammers will be competing in the Europa League next season, and Alvarez could be a key player for them. West Ham have the finances to get the deal across the line, especially after the departure of Rice and it remains to be seen whether they can secure an agreement soon.

Now that personal terms have been agreed with the player, Ajax will be under pressure to cash in on the midfielder. West Ham have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks, and players like Scott McTominay and James Ward-Prowse are reportedly on their transfer radar as well.

The Hammers managed to win the UEFA Europa Conference League last year, and they will look to compete for silverware in the upcoming campaign as well. They will need players who can elevate them to the next level, and the Mexican international is certainly a player of that calibre.
