Leeds’ pursuit of Championship star handed potential boost as Burnley close on £12m deal

Leeds United have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Coventry City’s Gustavo Hamer with Burnley having moved onto another target.

According to Alan Nixon, Burnley are set to complete a deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Aaron Ramsey for a fee in the region of £12 million.

Burnley have been touted as Leeds’ main competition for Hamer this summer and even reportedly saw a bid rejected for the 26-year-old last month.

As per TeamTalk, Burnley offered £8 million + Luke McNally and Bobby Collins for Hamer, which was swiftly rejected by Coventry, who are seeking a straight cash deal of £15 million.

With Collins having moved to Coventry in a separate deal and McNally now at Stoke City, Burnley appear to have moved on from Hamer due to the price tag.

Burnley set to sign Ramsey from Villa could hand Leeds boost in Hamer pursuit

Like Hamer, Ramsey is very much a creative midfield player who likes to get goals and assists having scored five in just 11 appearances on loan at Middlesbrough last season.

Burnley are still extremely active in the transfer market this summer and so can’t afford to splash large amounts of cash on one single player with several positions still of interest.

And with Ramsey expected to cost around £12 million, that could well mean their pursuit of Hamer is now over, which would be a boost in Leeds’ hopes of signing him.

Hamer has just 12 months left to run on his deal at Coventry and is yet to give any indication he will be signing a new one, which puts the Sky Blues in a difficult position.

Leeds should be doing all they can to bring in a midfielder of his goalscoring and creative ability, and this latest update could be key to them getting a deal done.
