McKay Madsen, a four-star athlete from Clovis North High School in California, committed to BYU during the All-American Bowl on January 11, 2025, choosing the Cougars over Oregon and UCLA. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 235 pounds, Madsen excelled as both a running back and linebacker in high school. In his senior year, he rushed for 1,238 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaging 8.8 yards per carry, and recorded 49 tackles with four interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

A significant factor in Madsen’s decision was BYU’s alignment with his faith and family values. He expressed, “Family is everything, and faith is even more important. I want to continue my education at a school who respects that and lets me live it every day.” Additionally, his family has strong ties to BYU; his mother and grandparents are alumni, and his brother and sister are current students.

Madsen’s commitment adds a highly-rated recruit to BYU’s 2025 class. He plans to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling, with his college football career expected to begin in 2027.
