Celtic are now close to signing someone who Mesut Ozil once called a “special” player.

Fresh from securing two more trophies under Brendan Rodgers, the Bhoys are now ready to make reinforcements to the playing staff.

The No.1 position is one area in need of a new face after Joe Hart retired – and Celtic are now close to finding a replacement for the Englishman…

Celtic close to signing Altay Bayindir

A story by Aksam in Turkey now claims that Celtic are close to signing Manchester United No.1 Altay Bayindir.

The Turkish news outlet believe Celtic are about to sign the Turkey international to a four-year contract running until the summer of 2028.

It comes after Bayindir endured a tough debut campaign at Old Trafford following a £4.3m switch from Fenerbahce in September 2023 – making just one appearance for the Red Devils as Andre Onana was preferred by Erik ten Hag

Even that one outing led to some criticism, as the Turk conceded twice in a 4-2 FA Cup win over Newport County.

Now – however – Celtic are ready to offer Bayindir an escape route out of Old Trafford.

Aksam believe the 26-year-old is keen to leave Manchester United, and while there is no mention of a transfer fee in the report, the Turkish news outlet seem confident that an agreement has been reached.

Brendan Rodgers could sign a “special” goalkeeper

Bayindir caught the eye of Manchester United for a reason – as he was one of the best goalkeepers in Turkey before moving to England.

Ozil even called the man from Bursa a “special” glovesman after making his debut for Fenerbahce in February 2021 – while there was also talk of Newcastle making a £14.5m bid at one point.

One quiet season at Old Trafford has not turned Bayindir into a bad goalkeeper overnight, so there are many reasons for Celtic fans to believe that the Manchester United No.1 could be a fantastic replacement for Hart.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Celtic could soon make an official announcement.
