REPORT: Indianapolis Colts Star WR Michael Pittman Jr. Suffers Scary Injury; Escorted Inside After Collision

Indianapolis Colts star wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. suffered an injury during the team’s practice on Wednesday. The Colts are hosting their voluntary OTAs this week.

While many of Pittman’s receiver colleagues are holding out of voluntary OTAs this month due to contract negotiations, Pittman had no leverage to use against the Colts this month after he signed a three-year extension worth $70 million earlier this offseason.

According to Mike Chappell, Pittman went down to the ground after a collision during an 11-on-11 drill. He stayed down for several moments before he was able to get up. He got up limping:

“The medical staff rushed to the scene and appeared to give special attention to his left knee. General manager Chris Ballard was among the small group surrounding Pittman. Coach Shane Steichen trotted over to check on the team’s leading receiver.

After a few anxious moments, Pittman stood up and walked toward the indoor practice facility. There was a slight limp. Soon thereafter, he was escorted inside by trainers.”

“He just bumped knees out there on a play,’’ Steichen said following practice. “I don’t have a full update, but he should be fine.’’

A source with knowledge of the situation later confirmed Steichen’s encouraging prognosis.

The Colts need Pittman healthy for the upcoming season. He was the team’s leading receiver last season, with 109 receptions for 1,152 yards and four touchdowns. He’ll lead a receivers corps that includes Josh Downs, Alec Pierce, and rookie Adonai Mitchell.
