Tracking Louisville football departures in the transfer portal

Tracking the players that have elected to depart Louisville for the college football transfer portal

The college football transfer portal has impacted the game in many ways, with the focus on providing a path for student-athletes to seek the opportunity that best fits their abilities and needs. It is now expected that college programs will say goodbye to a few players from its spring roster while also welcoming new roster additions via the portal.

“I just think the college landscape has changed quite a bit,” head coach Jeff Brohm said earlier this year. “Yes, it will continue to probably adapt, moving forward, even more. but we just try to figure it out and make the most of it. From our end, I think you’ve always got to be ready for roster change.”

During the prior winter cycle, Louisville saw 18 players depart via the transfer portal, while adding more than two dozen to its depth chart.

Louisville has had a group enter the transfer portal this spring. This tracker will be updated with any departures and/or updates to their transfer status.

Here’s a look at those from Louisville’s spring roster that have officially entered the transfer portal. 247Sports’ transfer portal can be found HERE.

New School: UCF | Boone committed to UCF on May 1

Former Toledo running back Peny Boone has been practicing with the University of Louisville football team all spring.

But on Monday, Boone informed the U of L coaching staff that he was going back into the transfer portal. The former MAC Offensive Player of the Year had been battling Maurice Turner, Kejuan Brown, freshman Isaac Brown, and Miami transfer Don Chaney for first-team reps.

“This transition, just knowing the guys in my room and speed,” Boone said two weeks ago. “And, just really getting used to my line. I’ve played with good lines in the past, but it’s the best one by far, so just getting caught up on the speed of it. It’s basically just showing what I can do in different run types and situations.”

One of the top running back targets in the portal Boone – who committed to Louisville in January and then enrolled in school – was the 2023 MAC Offensive Player of the Year. He finished the season eighth nationally with 1,400 rushing yards while reaching the end zone 15 times. His 7.2 yards per carry average was seventh best in the nation.

Lole, who announced on Jan. 19 that he was going to return to U of L for another season, has been at spring practice with the Cardinals the past month but has not been doing many – if any – live reps when the team does 11-on-11 work.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pound defensive tackle was a transfer from Arizona State before the 2022 season. Lole drew NFL Draft buzz for his play with the Sun Devils, before missing the 2021 season with a triceps injury. He appeared in one game during his first season at U of L before being sidelined with injury.

In 2023, Lole appeared in 12 games, starting nine. He finished with 19 tackles, including five for a loss and 1.5 sacks, while also logging a QB hurry and a pair of pass breakups.

In three seasons at Arizona State, Lole was a productive interior pass rusher, totaling 123 tackles (20 for loss), 11 sacks, and eight pass breakups.

Prior to Arizona State, Lole was a 247Sports Composite three-star recruit out of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly.
