9 Sheffield Wednesday transfers that could actually materialise in the next few weeks

It appears that Sheffield Wednesday will have a busy summer transfer window once more.

Sheffield Wednesday released their retained list on Friday, suggesting that the Owls are already planning for the summer.

Some players, like Josh Windass and Barry Bannan, have been offered new contracts; others, like Lee Gregory, who recently joined Mansfield Town, and George Byers, have been let go.

Danny Rohl will undoubtedly have a busy summer of transfers because he is eager to assemble a team that will be competitive next year.

And these nine potential transfer transactions involving Sheffield Wednesday over the coming two weeks.

James Beadle – In

Sheffield Wednesday News recently revealed that Brighton will definitely loan out James Beadle this summer, regardless of their ongoing goalkeeper conundrum.

The England U20 man shone on loan with Sheffield Wednesday after joining in January, keeping eight clean sheets in 19 Championship appearances.

The Owls are desperate to re-sign him.

Pierce Charles – Out

Beadle returning, and Cameron Dawson potentially staying after being offered a new contract, could mean youngster Pierce Charles heading out on loan.

He’s been handed a new contract at Hillsborough recently and Rohl could be keen for him to play some regular first-team football.

Marvin Johnson: Away with the Wingback Marvin Johnson, who was banished by Xisco Munoz before making an outstanding comeback to action under Rohl, is another player who received a new contract offer this week.

However, Johnson was the target of transfer rumors in January of last year, with Ipswich Town making an unsuccessful attempt to recruit him.

Johnson’s performance in the Championship under Rohl is impressive, as evidenced by his four goals and four assists. This could lead to further interest from transfer partners or perhaps Johnson’s departure as a free agent.

Ian Poveda: Within
Ian Poveda is another loan player that Sheffield Wednesday is eager to get back, although the Owls will have competition for his services.

The Colombian international has been linked to Burnley, Luton Town, Sunderland, and Sheffield Wednesday prior to his contract at Leeds United expiring.

Di’Shon Bernard – Out Di’Shon Bernard is one of the players whose contracts expire this summer and who has received a new deal offer.

It’s not surprising given his stellar first campaign in S6, and Wednesday would be eager to cash in if, in the unlikely event that he stays, his worth would soar.

Either that, or he signs a contract to relocate as a free agent and departs.

Ike Ugbo In
Ike Ugbo, a striker, is allegedly eager to return to Sheffield Wednesday, capping the trio of January loan players the Owls are seeking to re-sign.

The Canadian international left the Owls last summer after scoring seven goals in 18 Championship games. His parent team Troyes was recently demoted from the French second division, which is probably what caused Ugbo’s departure.

Cadamarteri Bailey – Not in
If Ugbo resigns and players like Windass remain on board, young player Bailey Cadamarteri may be sent on loan.

With four goals in 23 Championship games for the Owls at the end of the season, the 19-year-old appears to be a serious prospect going forward.

If there won’t be enough game time

Duncan McGuire The possibility that Cadamarteri leaves this summer is increased by Sheffield Wednesday’s acquisition of Duncan McGuire, a striker for Orlando City.

After missing out on the USMNT player in January, the Owls are still interested in him, even though McGuire has since scored five goals in 11 MLS games this season.

English teams have been keeping an eye on him lately; it’s unclear if Wednesday was one of those teams.
