Verified: Sheffield offers new contract to son of former Super Eagles star

Championship team Sheffield Wednesday revealed their retained and released list after the 2023–2024 season ended with a statement on their official website.

Dominic Iorfa, who was invited to the 2014 Nigeria Olympic National Team, is one of the seven players—Barry Bannan, Cameron Dawson, Di’Shon Bernard, Liam Palmer, Will Vaulks, and Josh Windass—who have been offered new contracts.

Dominic is the son of Dominic Iorfa Sr., a former striker for the Super Eagles who competed for Nigeria in the 1995 King Fahd Cup.

If the defender does not sign a new contract before his current one expires at the end of next month, he will be free to leave the Owls.

Iorfa joined Wolverhampton Wanderers’ youth system before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in January 2019.

During his two loan stints with Wolves, he made 32 appearances across all competitions with Ipswich Town and Shrewsbury.

The 28-year-old has played for Sheffield Wednesday in 165 games overall, contributing 10 goals.

Iorfa has represented his native England at the U18, U20, and U21 levels. The Nigeria Football Federation had previously taken notice of him.

After scoring seven goals, Ike Ugbo, a different player who was earlier wooed by the Nigerian Federation, has returned to his parent team Troyes.
