Maple Leafs’ Coaching Candidates: Craig Berube vs. Todd McLellan
Two well-known candidates have surfaced as front-runners to take over as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs in Sheldon Keefe’s absence: Craig Berube and Todd McLellan. Given that both coaches have extensive NHL experience, it’s worthwhile to debate whether one would be a better match for the Maple Leafs. That exact problem was recently covered in a Kyper and Bourne show segment.
The panel discusses the virtues of Berube against McLellan in the video below. The three analyzed each coach and attempted to clarify the possible effects they might have on the Maple Leafs’ future in the event that they are chosen to succeed former head coach Sheldon Keefe.
In the course of debating Berube and McLellan as possible Maple Leafs coaches, the experts offered their perspectives on the advantages and disadvantages of each. Each coach’s qualities were discussed in detail, with an emphasis on their experiences, coaching philosophies, and past triumphs and setbacks. They mainly admired Berube’s assertiveness and Stanley Cup triumphs, whereas McLellan’s long coaching career and regular-season accomplishments were seen negatively.
The topic of which coach they thought would be more qualified to guide the Maple Leafs and successfully meet the team’s demands, however, never seemed to come up during the discussion. Because of this, I’d like to go over each coach’s history, achievements, and coaching tendencies in more detail in this post. I’ll start with McLellan and examine their coaching histories, noting what each
might bring to leading Toronto further into playoff success. After that information, I’ll return to what the panel noted about each coach’s good and bad points.
