Brooklyn Nets Sign Former Memphis Grizzlies Player

The Brooklyn Nets have reportedly signed Jacob Gilyard

It was reported by Michael A. Scotto of HoopsHype that the Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a two-way deal with former Memphis Grizzlies guard Jacob Gilyard. Recently waived by the Grizzlies, Gilyard now gets another opportunity with an NBA team.

Appearing in 37 games for the Grizzlies this season, Gilyard was a solid piece for Memphis in the absence of so many key players. In his 37 games this season, Gilyard averaged 4.7 PPG in 17.7 minutes per game. More importantly than the per game averages for Gilyard was his 41.7% clip from deep.

Gilyard also did a good job limiting turnovers as a lead guard for the Grizzlies, averaging 3.5 assists per game to just 0.8 turnovers per game. There was a lot to like with Gilyard’s time in Memphis, but the Grizzlies seemed to figure that he would not be a part of their healthy roster next season, and decided to let him go in favor of recently signed guard Jordan Goodwin.

At 5’9″, Gilyard is certainly undersized at the NBA level, but is still able to make a lot happen offensively. Showcasing that ability in his unique opportunity in Memphis, Gilyard helped land himself another opportunity at the NBA level, with Brooklyn taking a look at him.

Looking to take advantage of this opportunity, Gilyard will be moving from Memphis to Brooklyn.
