Jones was a member of the Mean Green for four seasons, including the 2023–24 campaign in which he helped lead UNT to the NIT by averaging 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists—all career highs. Upon the announcement of Justin Pippen’s decision earlier on Friday, a top-75 talent, Dusty May becomes the Wolverines’ second promise of the day.

Standing at six feet five, Jones committed to North Texas over a final three that also included Tulsa and Louisiana Tech. He played a number of positions for the team.
Jones played in 22 games as a rookie in 2020–21, all coming off the bench. He averaged 6.2 points per game and tied for fourth on the club with 36 assists. Despite missing out on the conference tournament and the upset victory over Purdue in the NCAA Tournament due to a hamstring injury, he was nominated to the C-USA All-Freshman Team for his contributions.
As a wing guard, Jones started 30 games in 2021–22, averaging 31.7 minutes per game. In 2022–23, as a combo guard, Jones played in 34 games and was selected to the C–USA All-Defensive Team. The winningest season in program history came to an end when the UNT squad won the NIT, their first ever such trophy.
During his senior year, Jones continued to progress as a point guard for UNT, making 23 starts, captaining the team, and finishing second in scoring. Due to a hamstring injury, he missed 11 games; nevertheless, he made a comeback in February and March to help the Mean Green finish seventh in the AAC, earn an NIT invitation, and defeat LSU in the first round.
