Michigan sex offender discovered with missing West Virginia girl
FOX 2 (EMMET COUNTY, MI) – After being discovered by authorities in Michigan with a sexual offender, a girl who fled her West Virginia family is now safe.
West Virginia police called Michigan State Police troopers in Gaylord on Wednesday night, stating they had cause to suspect the missing youngster was with a registered sex offender in the Petoskey area. The girl’s age was not disclosed by MSP, however the West Virginia Beckley Police Department states that she is sixteen.
A 26-year-old man’s Petoskey home was searched by MSP troopers after they acquired a search warrant. They discovered the missing teen throughout that search.
The man told police he knew the girl was reported missing and that he was letting her stay with him. He has a prior conviction for criminal sexual activity with a victim under the age of thirteen, according to police.
Police are working together to return the girl home as the man was taken into custody and placed in the Emmet County Jail. To this day, investigators are trying to determine how the girl met and got to know the man.
