The coach of Carlos Alcaraz: “There was something special, but he was once just a little noodle with no muscles.”
When Juan Carlos Ferrero was twelve, he got to know Carlos Alcaraz. After his player’s incredible victory at the US Open, he discussed his background with the media.
Carlos Alcaraz’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, gave a news conference following his student’s victory at the US Open, which marked the beginning of his maiden Grand Slam victory and made him the youngest number one in tennis history at the age of 19 years and 129 days.
“I believe Carlos Alcaraz is playing at 60% of his potential; we all know he needs to keep working hard. We all know that he needs to keep winning now that he is at the top, and I will remind him of that,” Ferrero said in remarks that the EFE agency was able to get.
Ferrero emphasised the following parts of Alcaraz’s game that he has to work on: “Alcaraz needs to work on his rest, his serve, his backhand in certain circumstances, consistency, and trying not to give up mentally at certain stages. All players need to get better at these things until they retire.”
When Carlos Alcaraz initially came at the academy, Juan Carlos Ferrero described it as the first time he had ever seen him play, saying, “We saw something very special, but he was a noodle, quick, but he didn’t have muscles.”
“When he was twelve or thirteen years old, that’s when I first saw him. He visited the academy, and one day we had training. Even though he was little, you could tell that he was the talk of the town. In a little manner, he had all that he currently possesses,” he said.
“At the age of 14, I officially visited him after he received his maiden ATP point. I saw the match, when he played a great first set and then made a huge error in the second. However, it was evident that, despite his lack of physical attributes at the age of 14, he faced fierce competition from opponents. Ferrero stated, “There had not yet been any contacts for us to collaborate.”
Juan Carlos Ferrero also discussed his emotions after Carlos Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1), and 6-3 in the US championship match.
“I have not suffered as much today, but I have endured a great deal this week. Ferrero told Eurosport, “I think Carlos is playing well, but you could see he did have some doubts in the second set.”
