Luton Town now hoping for green light to sign Manchester United player

Luton Town are now hoping to receive the green light in their pursuit of Manchester United stopper Tom Heaton.

The Hatters are preparing for life in the Premier League after going up through the Championship playoffs.

We have already seen Rob Edwards spend £4million on former Manchester United talent Tahith Chong.

More signings will be coming and Luton seemingly want to bring in Tom Heaton too.

The Sun claim that Luton are hoping ‘to get a thumbs up’ from Manchester United in their pursuit of Heaton.

It’s stated that United may be willing to let Heaton go once they bring in new goalkeeping additions.

Luton went up with Ethan Horvath in goal with the American taking on a key role after joining on loan from Nottingham Forest.

The Hatters have decided not to sign Horvath permanently though and are in the market for a new goalkeeper.

Heaton appears to be on target as they seemingly seek Premier League experience in the hope of staying up.

The 37-year-old isn’t going to become United’s first-choice stopper any time soon and may well fancy the chance to play regularly at Kenilworth Road.

Heaton has just one year left on his contract after United activated an option in his deal this summer.

Heaton is another homegrown United player linked with exit

The reason why Heaton has been so appealing as a backup goalkeeper is that he counts as a homegrown player.

Heaton came up in the United ranks as a kid before leaving for Cardiff City in 2010.

Not only does Heaton count as a homegrown English player, but also as a club-trained player.

These players are vital for Champions League football and some may be leaving United this summer.

Dean Henderson, Scott McTominay and Anthony Elanga all count as United-trained players but they are being linked away from Old Trafford.

Mason Greenwood’s future remains unclear and Zidane Iqbal has already moved on, whilst Brandon Williams may well want football away from United.

Heaton’s exit could open up the registration of some young players into the Champions League squad for this coming season, with a decision over his exit maybe not entirely straightforward.
