The newest recruit for Clemson football might be the greatest choice to succeed Will Shipley.
Will Shipley may not have the finest successor in Clemson football history.
This Monday, David Eziomume, a four-star running back from North Cobb in Kennesaw, Georgia, who Rivals ranks as the seventh-best prospect in the nation for the 2024 class, announced his commitment to Clemson. Using social media, he announced the news on Wednesday.
As spring practice gets underway on Monday, Clemson has no four-star running backs behind Shipley (five) and Phil Mafah (four). Shipley led Clemson to an ACC championship and an Orange Bowl appearance last season, rushing for 1,082 yards and 15 touchdowns. Both he and Mafah (515 yards) may play professionally during their next junior seasons.
More than thirty offers from Power Five conference teams, including Southern Cal, Wisconsin, Penn State, Cincinnati, and South Carolina, were made to 6-foot-1, 205-pound Eziomume. It came down to Georgia Tech, his hometown team, and Clemson, he added.
Under new coordinator Garrett Riley, Eziomume would appear to flourish as a pass-catcher out of the backfield in Clemson’s faster-paced system. Shipley only had three less receptions than senior wideout Joseph Ngata (38) in the previous season. That figure will undoubtedly rise.
Two three-star running backs were added by Clemson in the 2023 early signing period. Eziomume, who is ranked No. 335 nationally for all positions, is seen to be superior than both. Jamarius Haynes and Jarvis Green from Duke Fork are not in the top 900.
The sixth four-star recruit from Clemson committed to the 2024 class is Eziomume. The Tigers also have defensive lineman Champ Thompson from Norcross, Georgia; safety Tavoy Feagin from Tampa; tight end Christian Bentancur from Woodstock, Illinois; and safety Noah Dixon from LaGrange, Georgia.
