“I hope I get a shout-out”: The manly star lights up Vegas with his sly Gronk NFL celebration.
The Sea Eagles winger Reuben Garrick made the most of his one and only opportunity to play in an NFL stadium on Sunday by celebrating his try with a US-inspired celebration.
Garrick celebrated Manly’s 36-24 victory over Souths with a spike, like the iconic NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski.
After Daly Cherry-Evans skillfully placed a kick between three opponents, Garrick pounced to score, bounced back to his feet, and smashed the ball into the Allegiant Stadium ground in a manner reminiscent to Gronk.
After the game, in the sheds, Garrick remarked, “I was saying to the boys during the week if I’m lucky enough to get over the try line I’ll do the Gronk spike.”
“It was really awesome to watch him perform a few years ago, and I really enjoyed it.” All I can hope is that Gronk gives me a shout-out.
For many of us, it isn’t natural to do those stuff until it is the try celebration month, so we had to try to hype it up (the try celebrations).
But why not go big when in the US, I suppose.
“It lived up to the anticipation and beyond expectations. The audience, which included many Manly supporters as well as NRL fans wearing all-white jerseys, was amazing to witness.
“As a team, we had a great experience and thought it was a really good concept.”
plenty to learn from it. All I wanted to do was go out there and give it everything I had.
When asked about Garrick’s try celebration, Cherry-Evans laughed and claimed the game was greater than it would have been in the regular season.
“Yes, I will give him some credit. We had a conversation about it earlier in the week, and that was the Gronk spike,” he said.
I must say that the mood was just wonderful. It was obviously a level above an Australian regular season game. You could tell there was a lot more to it because of the indoor stadium and entertainment.
But for the majority of the game, we maintained our composure and concentration, and we managed to win.
We’re attempting to increase awareness of the game rather than just competing for two points or representing Manly.
“As a player, you try not to focus too much on the wider picture; instead, you want to give your best effort on the field. Hopefully, the Americans have noticed, and I hope they had fun tonight. Therefore, it’s excellent for our game if we can have an effect and it’s a wider picture issue.
