CYRIEL DESSERS SIGNING ANNOUNCED BY RANGERS
The seasoned attacker, who was born in Belgium, has competed in some of Europe’s top divisions. He spent the previous season in Serie A.
Dessers has also played for Utrecht, Heracles Almelo, and Feyenoord in the highest levels of Dutch football, as well as for OH Leuven, Lokeren, and Genk in the Belgian Pro-League for a number of years.
With 10 goals during his time at Feyenoord in 2021–2022, Dessers was awarded the best striker in the UEFA Europa Conference League, earning a spot in the team of the season.
Dessers is an international player for Nigeria who has received four caps for the Super Eagles.
“I am really happy, it is a big relief to finally be here,” he stated in a statement following his signing with the Rangers. Even though there have been some difficult and demanding days, it feels wonderful to be here at last.
“The stadium, the supporters, and the club’s rich history are all enormous, but I also consider the present situation here. I am glad to be here because I had a great conversation with Michael Beale about his goals and intentions both on and off the field. I felt that we might be a great fit for each other and the squad.
Michael Beale, the manager, said: “We are thrilled that Cyriel has joined our team. His participation in European games and his playing in Holland, Belgium, and Italy have given him a wealth of experience.
“We have a very specific profile in mind, and we think Cyriel will provide us with a range of attributes both in and out of possession. We had a lengthy conversation regarding his compatibility with our playing style and the other forwards on our team when we first met.
“At 28, he is in a wonderful age and will infuse our squad with his charisma and leadership. Cyriel expressed a strong desire to move here and worked very hard to make this transfer a reality.
“We are thrilled that he and his family will be spending time with us at Rangers. He is a great addition to our team, and I am forward to collaborate closely with him in the next campaigns.
