Two-time NBA All-Star guard officially signs with Miami Heat in free agency
NBA free agent Victor Oladipo, a two-time All-Star and former All-NBA guard, has officially signed with the Miami Heat.
The Miami Heat have advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second time in the previous three seasons, demonstrating their superiority over other teams in the league. With a 53-29 record at the end of the 2021–22 season and the best record in the East, the Heat are certain they will return to the NBA Finals.
Their depth has shown to be just as crucial as their All-Star three of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Kyle Lowry, who are crucial to the team’s final postseason result.
Victor Oladipo, who will be a vital member of Miami’s bench unit, was formally revealed to be returning on a new deal on Thursday.
Oladipo and the Heat have rearranged their contract after initially agreeing to a one-year, $11 million deal to return to the team at the beginning of free agency, as revealed by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Victor Oladipo and the Miami Heat have renegotiated the parameters of a two-year contract for around $18 million in total, according to Anthony Chang of the Miami Herald. Oladipo will receive around $8.5 million in the first season of this new contract, and there is a player option for the second season.
Since sustaining a torn right quad tendon in 2019 while playing for the Indiana Pacers, Oladipo, 30, has battled a number of ailments. He was nominated to the All-NBA and All-Defensive teams before this injury since he had made the All-Star Game in back-to-back seasons and led the league in thefts in the 2017–18 campaign.
Oladipo chose to re-sign with Miami on a minimum deal prior to the 2021–22 season after being traded to the Heat the previous season. In eight regular season games last year, he averaged 12.4 points, 3.5 assists, and shot 47.9% from the field and 41.7% from three-point range.
During Miami’s playoff run, Victor Oladipo truly began to emerge, scoring 10.6 points per game and displaying glimmers of his previous form on the defensive end of the court.
Oladipo will be the Miami Heat’s sixth man going forward as they pursue a title once more, having signed a two-year contract as opposed to a one-year one.
