After painfully losing out on the Premier League last season, Coventry is making a run for it this year.
While Hamer is playing for Sheffield United at the bottom of the Premier League table, he will undoubtedly be a wise choice for the Championship team should the Blades drop back to the second division next season. Gyokeres is playing brilliantly for Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese top division, and his performances have seen him linked with Chelsea in what could be an incredible £86 million move.
With players like Milan van Ewijk and Haji Wright standing out among others, Coventry has wisely used the £35 million the two brought in. Mark Robins’ team hopes to finish in the play-offs for a second straight season in an effort to improve at the last hurdle and earn promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 24 years. However, because of his championship-level achievements, Callum O’Hare will be there with or without Coventry.
Callum O’Hare is once again the star of Coventry.
O’Hare, who is currently in his fifth season with the Sky Blues, was a star when he lined up for the team during their Championship comeback. However, a terrible knee injury he suffered at the beginning of the previous season kept him out of action for nearly a year. The star eventually made his way back to the CBS Arena midway through October.
There was a hint that, despite Coventry being a clever team and difficult to beat, there were moments of magic missing going forward with the departures of Gyokeres and Hamer. However, O’Hare has more than lived up to the expectations, as evidenced by his late brace against the league-leading Leicester City on Saturday.
O’Hare’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, so he probably won’t be short on suitors should he choose to extend it. However, the club’s love for him since his move also means he’ll know exactly where he stands in terms of signing a new contract, especially if Coventry is promoted. But even if they don’t rise, he will undoubtedly be interested in playing in the Premier League and will develop into a good player in either case.
