After three seasons, head coach Arthur Smith of the Atlanta Falcons was sacked. Smith finished with an overall record of 21–30 after going 7–10 in each of those three seasons.
Owner Arthur Blank stated, “It’s never easy to make decisions like this, and it never feels good.” “We have profound respect for coach Smith and appreciate all the hard work and dedication he has put into the Falcons over the last three years.”Although he has contributed to our football team’s positive culture, the team’s on-field performance has fallen short of our expectations. We have concluded that new leadership in the head coaching role is the right course of action for our squad after giving it careful analysis and consideration.”
The New Orleans Saints defeated the Falcons 48–17 on Sunday to finish the season.
Along with team CEO Rich McKay and general manager Terry Fontenot, who is safe, will assist in leading the hunt.
Despite utilizing a top-10 pick on an offensive weapon each year—TE Kyle Pitts at No. 4 in 2021, Drake London at No. 8 in 2022, and Bijan Robinson at No. 8 in 2023—Smith’s club had a negative point differential every season.
The Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Carolina Panthers are the four teams with formal head coaching openings. The position is most likely to become available on Monday.
