Murphy declared that the next head coach would be hired right away
McCarthy is fired by Green Bay following their defeat to Arizona.
Following the firing of head coach Mike McCarthy, offensive coordinator Joe Philbin was named the acting head coach of the Green Bay Packers.
Following a devastating 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday that dropped Green Bay to 4-7-1, team president Mark Murphy made the announcement.
The 2018 campaign “has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers,” according to a statement from Murphy. I therefore had to make the painful choice to remove Mike McCarthy from his position as head coach, effective right away.”
Murphy declared that the next head coach would be hired right away.
McCarthy was in his 13th season as coach. The Packers won the Super Bowl under McCarthy in the 2010 season. He finishes with a record of 125-77-2.
Hunt admits he misled Chiefs about assault
Running back Kareem Hunt acknowledged that he misled the Kansas City Chiefs about his role in a February assault in a Cleveland hotel that ultimately led to his release this week.
The NFL’s rushing champion also said, in a live interview with ESPN on Sunday, that he was never contacted by league officials on the event while they were looking into it themselves and that he was unaware of the security camera footage until TMZ Sports released it on Friday.
Hunt is seen arguing with a woman in the shaky, disturbing footage, and many guys intervene to stop him. Hunt later acknowledged he did not know the woman who was knocked down by one of the men’s shove, and he later kicks her as she lies on the ground.
