Staff shuffles which usually occur in February, really hit the Miami Hurricanes this time really hard as they loose two great …

The Miami Hurricanes are losing “GM” Alonzo Highsmith and CB coach Jahmile Addae to the NFL after losing Tim Harris to UCF. With the Knights, Harris received a “promotion” from running backs to “OC,” though Gus Malzahn will still call the plays on game days.
Addae becomes the new cornerbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills, and Highsmith takes a front office position with the New England Patriots. Addae’s track record as a recruiter was inconsistent, and it’s obvious that this isn’t what the NFL needs him for.
It’s been reported that Highsmith requested additional decision-making authority at Miami, which is an unusual request for anyone other than the head coach at the Power 5 level.

Staff shuffles usually occur in February, following the dust from National Signing Day, and before spring football practices begin, which usually begin in early March. Mario Cristobal, the head coach of the Hurricanes, should have a CB coach and general manager in place already, as he appeared to have done for the RB spot, where Matt Merritt is rumoured to be interested in moving from USF to Miami.

If my memory serves me well, Cristobal has had three RB coaches in three seasons at Miami (Kevin Smith departed after 2022). He has also replaced his OC and DC, Shannon Dawson and Josh Gattis and Lance Guidry and Kevin Steele, respectively, and moved the duties of his defensive line coach, Joe Salave’a.
After two seasons under the Cristobal Era, the Hurricanes are 12-13, and they are motivated and poised to contend for a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff by looking at their schedule for 2024.
