Gabriel Signs with the Boston Celtics
Boston: The Boston Celtics signed center Wenyen Gabriel, the organization announced today. The specifics of the deal were not revealed in accordance with team policy.
Throughout his four NBA seasons (2019–23), Gabriel (6-9, 205) has participated in 145 games (eight starts) with the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, and Sacramento Kings. In 68 games (two starts) and 15.1 minutes per game the previous season, Gabriel averaged 5.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and a career-high 59.6 percent from the field for the Lakers.
In addition, Gabriel participated in three G League seasons, spending time with the Milwaukee Bucks’ affiliate teams, the Wisconsin Herd (2021–22) and the Stockton Kings (2018–2020). In 57 career games (21 starts), he averaged 22.3 minutes per game, 12.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.4 blocks.
The native of Khartoum, Sudan, attended Kentucky for two seasons of college ball (2016–2018), helping the Wildcats win the SEC Tournament twice in a row. Throughout his 75 career games, he averaged 20.3 minutes, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.7 points. Before filing to enter the 2018 NBA Draft, he led the Wildcats in blocked shots during his sophomore season and ended second on the team with 42 made three-pointers.
Gabriel completed his high school education at Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, after attending Trinity High School in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Boston: Today, Nathan Knight, a forward/center, was signed by the Boston Celtics to a two-way deal. The specifics of the deal were not revealed in accordance with team policy.
Knight (6-10, 253) has played in 108 games (two starts) with the Minnesota Timberwolves (2022–23) and Atlanta Hawks (2020–21). During his career, he has averaged 7.8 minutes per game, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.7 points while shooting 47.6 percent from the field.
The Syracuse, New York native played four years of college at William & Mary, where he averaged 17.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 125 games. He was named a three-time Lou Henson Mid-Major All-American (2018, 2019, 2020). Knight won the Lou Henson National Player of the Year award during his senior year, given out yearly to the best Division I mid-major player in the country by CollegeInsider.com. In addition, he was chosen as the 2020 CAA Player of the Year and the Basketball Times National Mid-Major Player of the Year.
Knight completed his high school education at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire, after attending Nottingham High School in Syracuse, New York.
Guard Jay Scrubb has been released by the Celtics in a related roster move.
