Four Man City players will not be playing for their country ahead of their match against Liverpool due to injuries.
There are now just 14 healthy outfield players for Manchester City.

As Manchester City’s injury situation worsens, Matheus Nunes has become the fourth player to withdraw from international duty during the current break.

The midfield player was included in the Portugal squad for the team’s forthcoming matches against Iceland and Liechtenstein, however it was revealed in a statement on Wednesday that Nunes had to withdraw from the team.

Portugal’s two games will not include the midfielder, according to the official announcement. Following testing, Matheus Nunes was deemed clinically unfit for the National Team’s two matches against Iceland and Liechtenstein. The player will no longer accompany the remainder of the national group on their trip to Zurich.

Nunes, who joined City from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer, has made 12 appearances. His absences from the team are growing. Over the past week, Ederson, Mateo Kovacic, and Nathan Ake have all left their respective national teams, as have the Premier League champions.

After suffering an injury late last week, Ake was unable to play in Sunday’s 4–4 draw against Chelsea. As a result, the center-back was also left out of the Netherlands team.

As for Ederson, Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said that he had a foot injury at Stamford Bridge that left him in “intense” discomfort. He claimed, “The foot became swollen, difficult to walk.”

We first pushed back the presentation so that we could take tests. He wouldn’t be accessible right away because of the examinations, the short notice, and the relocation situation.

Regarding Kovacic, he was absent from Croatia’s pivotal Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Latvia and Armenia. Mateo Kovacic will not be coming today since he also felt a muscle last night [Sunday]. Zlatko Dalic, the manager, stated, “He is staying in Manchester for a check-up.

In addition to Sergio Gomez, who sustained a knock last week, John Stones also sustained an injury, while Kevin De Bruyne is sidelined for an extended period of time due to a hamstring issue. This means that there are currently just 14 senior outfield players available, including Oscar Bobb and Kalvin Phillips, who have not yet started a league game this year.

The string of injuries also coincides with a concerning period, as City hosts second-place Liverpool at home after their international break. In the next two games, the Blues will play Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, two teams ranked in the top five.
