An intimate look at the 2024 Red Sox season will be the subject of the second of the two specials

In response to the popularity of sports documentaries like “Full Swing,” “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” and “Quarterback,” Netflix is expanding into baseball with the release of two Boston Red Sox-related programs.

One of the projects will be a retrospective of the 2004 Red Sox World Series run that broke the curse. “Key players and figures” will feature in the documentary, according to Netflix.

An intimate look at the 2024 Red Sox season will be the subject of the second of the two specials, which will premiere in 2025. For the first time, an MLB team will be followed by Netflix for the whole 162-game season.

Red Sox chairman Tom Werner said in a statement that “the collaboration between MLB, Netflix, and the Red Sox will have a significant impact on growing the game of baseball.” “Netflix has a wide audience, and these documentaries have big goals.” One will take fans back to one of the most amazing tales that has permanently altered this franchise, and the other is a highly innovative project that offers a close-up view of the personalities and lives of the current Red Sox players.

The Red Sox have missed the postseason four times in the last five years since winning the World Series in 2018, including two straight AL East last-place finishes. For Red Sox supporters, this offseason has not been very hopeful because their team has not spent as much as it once did, and they have had to witness the division rivals’ significant advances through trades and free agency.

Chris Sale, Justin Turner, Alex Verdugo, and James Paxton are gone from the 2023 Red Sox; among of the new faces for 2024 are Lucas Giolito, Tyler O’Neill, and Vaughn Grissom. Not to mention, Theo Epstein has made a comeback.

Red Sox fans have been irritated by the organization’s lack of expenditure over the winter, which may make for intriguing television material should the team start slowly and fall behind in a strong division. Excellent video will be the season-ticket holder meeting where owner John Henry discusses the team’s decision to use free agency funds to support the PGA Tour.

The project, which MLB and Netflix have been developing since 2021, won’t be a week-by-week examination athletic. Rather, the “focus [will be] on the human interest element of players’ lives.”

With its increasing integration into the sports industry, Netflix offers fans a plethora of content to enjoy. In addition to a huge contract with WWE to exclusively air “Raw” starting in 2025, Netflix ventured into live sports and announced future docuseries featuring the NBA after previously covering Formula One, the PGA Tour, the NFL, and most recently NASCAR.
