Oklahoma State basketball loses badly to Kansas as Bryce Thompson is hurt for the Cowboys.
LAWRENCE, Kansas — No. 8 Kansas trounced Oklahoma State 83-54 on Tuesday night behind a balanced scoring onslaught led by 16 points apiece from Hunter Dickinson and K.J. Adams Jr.
Five Kansas starters scored ten or more points.
“Not having to worry as much was good,” Kansas head coach Bill Self remarked. “We performed well on the field. We were able to move the ball offensively. We shared the images we were happy with. We distributed our shots well. Marko (Elmarko Jackson) witnessed a few players fall, therefore the attacking play was excellent.
Without all-America contender Kevin McCullar Jr., the Jayhawks dominated the second half of the game. Their lead never fell below the eighteen-point cushion at the interval.
“Obviously, we had a difficult night, but Kansas played a significant role in it,” Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton remarked. It’s clear that we weren’t good enough to have much of a chance.
They have several methods to harm you. We attempted to force them to beat us from three points today, but they quickly proved they were more than capable of doing so. It is more difficult to give Hunter extra attention as a result.

OSU guard Bryce Thompson exited the game early in the first half after landing on his shoulder following a foul by Kansas’ Dickinson on a drive to the basket. Boynton stated that Thompson would undergo assessment in Stillwater to ascertain the extent of the damage.
Jackson scored ten, Johnny Furphy scored eleven, and Dajuan Harris Jr. scored twelve for Kansas (17-4, 5-3 Big 12). With 11 rebounds and a double-double, Dickinson and Harris both had seven assists. If one includes Dickinson’s first three years at Michigan, he scored more than 2,000 points in his career.
With his second-most points of the season, Harris’s aggression delighted Self.
He stated, “We wanted Juan to shoot the ball.” “I think he was more aggressive. Juan needs to stop listening to me and everyone else when it comes to what they believe he should be doing to play well, I told him. I find it ridiculous as well.
“All he’s accomplished is win a national title and a state high school championship. Every pickup game he plays, he wins. “Just play and trust your instincts,” I encourage him. Give up striving to fulfill the demands of other people. He must ensure that his squad triumphs. And he acts in such manner.
John-Michael Wright led Oklahoma State (9-12, 1-7) with 16 points. After the Cowboys scored the opening seven points of the game, Brandon Garrison added 11 more points.
Jackson’s jumper with 11:12 remaining in the first half gave Kansas its first double-digit lead as the team steadily pushed away in the first half. The Jayhawks lead 33–15 after Dickinson completed a 12-0 run with a foul-line jumper. They went into the locker room ahead 44–26 after leading by as much as 21 points in the first half.
Regarding playing without McCullar, Jackson remarked, “I saw it as an opportunity.” We call this group “Next man up.” All you need to do is be prepared for your chance.

THE TAKEAWAY: As the newest team in the Big 12 Conference, Oklahoma State’s Cowboys lack the depth needed to compete in the higher echelons of the league right now.
Kansas: Despite McCullar’s unspecified ailment keeping him out of the game, the Jayhawks managed to keep up with him.
