Alabama may switch to a pass-based approach, as seen by their signing day.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are getting ready to switch back to a pass-heavy approach soon, if the team’s sheer stature is any guide.
The Tide narrowly fell short of perennial recruiting rival Georgia to win the second-best class nationally according to 247 Sports. However, the composition of this class of 2024 may reveal where head coach Nick Saban envisions his squad heading in the upcoming years.
Six pass catchers are among the 25 signees and strong pledges on Wednesday. This comprises two tight ends, Caleb Odom (rated four stars) and Jay Lindsey (rated three stars), and four wide receivers, Ryan Williams (rated five stars) and Jameer Grimsley (rated four stars) and Aeryn Hampton (rated four stars).
In contrast, the Tide only signed one running back, local kid and four-star Kevin Riley, who on Wednesday renounced his pledge to Miami.
Even though those stats seem a little off, especially considering how often Jalen Milroe, the starting quarterback, has been used this season, Saban is probably considering Milroe’s replacement.
A few candidates are now in the quarterback room, and five-star passer Julian Sayin will be joining them to prepare for the Rose Bowl. Sayin has already been compared favorably to Heisman champion Bryce Young and other elite passers in Tuscaloosa.
It looks like Saban is adding players that will enable a big-armed quarterback to succeed, whether it’s Sayin, the highly anticipated quarterback, or one of the blue-chip quarterback prospects in Ty Simpson, Eli Holstein, and Dylan Lonergan who takes over as the starting quarterback following Milroe’s departure, which isn’t expected to happen until the 2025 season at the latest.
