Visit Mishawaka Meijer and “Shop with a Notre Dame Player.”

The Notre Dame football team took a sabbatical to get ready for their bowl match.

Rather, they were buying their way to give back to the community.

Today marked the yearly ‘Shop with a Player’ occasion at the Meijer shop located off Grape Road in Mishawaka.

115 local elementary and middle school kids from Pokagon Band and John Glenn School Corporation were given a football ‘buddy’ to spend $150 on whatever they wanted.

Senior Linebacker Jack Kizer said, he’s honored to be seen as a role model.

“So it’s cool to kind of build these relationships with them. Hear about them watching us and how excited they are to play football one day be a real model for them one day, and it really just warms your heart. ” said Jack Kizer, Notre Dame Linebacker.”

Sophomore Running Back Jadarian Price was shopping with Kenzie.

“I definitely see my little cousins and people like Kenzie and you know it just reminds me of all the things that I did for my little cousins back home and just not being able to… we still get to go back home a couple days before Christmas around this time just doing a little Christmas shopping and all the excitement that comes with it.” said Jadarian Price, Notre Dame Running Back.”

Meijer management said, the whole store looks forward to this fun event every year.

We’ve been doing this with the University for ten years, and it’s always so awesome to see our players interact with the kids and put a smile on their faces. It’s a ton of fun. remarked Meijer Store Director Jason Pursehouse.”

Even if the children may be Notre Dame supporters, some footballs were returned to the closet in favor of video games.

With hearts as full as their carts, players and children were beaming.
