Tracker for the Tennessee football transfer portal: who is entering and departing the portal
Officially, the transfer portal went live on Monday, December 4. It’s been anarchy ever since. There have already been a number of players added to Tennessee football.
The website will remain accessible until January 2. While players must enter the portal during the window, they are not required to select a new school by January 2.
Below is a look at who is using the portal to leave Tennessee football, who the Vols have selected through the portal, and a list of the standout returners who are choosing not to play in the NFL.
Who, through the portal, has pledged to attend Tennessee?
Tennessee still hasn’t received any commitments via the transfer website.
Vols that have made use of the gateway
Lineman on offense Addison Nichols
Addison Nichols announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal via social media on Monday night.
The 6-foot-5, 327-pound offense lineman struggled to find a spot for the Vols. He played in two games in 2022 and 12 games in 2023 but mostly on special teams.
Even amidst the injury shuffle on the offensive line, Nichols couldn’t crack the starting lineup. He likely projects as a guard.
Defensive back Brandon Turnage
Brandon Turnage enters the portal looking for his third school. He played at Alabama before becoming a Vol. He will also only have one year of eligibility.
Turnage has started six games at Tennessee while playing in 31. He registered nine tackles this season.
Safety Jack Luttrell
Jack Luttrell played in three games during his freshman year in 2023. He was the first commitment in the Vols’ 2023 class. The 6-foot, 180-pound safety has three years of eligibility remaining.
Defensive back Warren Burrell
Warren Burrell played in 41 games with 22 starts over five years at Tennessee. He recorded eight tackles and an interception during 10 games this season.
The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back has just a year of eligibility remaining.
Offensive lineman Mo Clipper Jr.
Mo Clipper Jr. announced his intention to enter the portal on Friday afternoon. He played in three games over two seasons for the Vols, mostly at guard and on special teams.
Notable comebacks
Lineman on offense John Campbell Jr.
On Monday night, John Campbell Jr. declared on social media that he would be making a comeback. The 320-pound, 6-foot-3 transfer will be an uncommon seventh-year senior.
In 2023, he made nine starts for the Vols before getting hurt. He provides the offensive line much-needed depth.
Football player Keenan Pili
According to 247Sports, linebacker Keenan Pili plans to return to Tennessee for his final season while using a medical redshirt.
At six feet three and 240 pounds, Pili is the quintessential Mike linebacker. He only made one appearance, against Virginia, before an injury ended his season. His presence in the middle of the defense was missed by the Vols.
