Injuries have been a byword for the Miami Heat over the past few NBA seasons. As players on the team struggle to stay on the court, head coach Erik Spoelstra appears to be flipping and adjusting his lineups and rotations all the time.
Regretfully for him, the 2023–24 NBA season has seen nothing change in that regard. The only player on the roster to have played in every one of the 21 games this season is rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. The only other player who hasn’t missed several games thus far is point guard Kyle Lowry.

The Heat are already down one key contributor, as Tyler Herro has played in only eight games and hasn’t made an appearance since November 8th because of an ankle injury. He is now being joined in the sidelines by center, Bam Adebayo.

Adebayo has been dealing with a hip issue, a contusion it is being called, since the first week of the regular season. It was originally suffered on October 28th against the Minnesota Timberwolves and he would miss three games over the next few weeks because of it.

But, things reached a head on November 30th against the Indiana Pacers. Spoelstra pulled Adebayo from the game and is considering him day-to-day. However, after missing Wednesday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors, Adebayo did not commit to being on the court for their next game on Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, either.

That player doesn’t sound like one who will be on the court on Friday night. The Heat’s next game is on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets, so they will have a few days off after that.

The Heat would be able to put Adebayo through some workouts and increase his on-court work during those few days off to prepare him for his comeback. Given that the team will want to make sure he is as healthy as possible before putting him back in the game, that seems like a more reasonable return date.
