Jordan Travis expressed his heartbreak over Florida State’s CFP snub, saying, “I wish my leg broke earlier.”
Following Florida State’s elimination from the College Football Playoffs due to a leg injury, star quarterback Jordan Travis expressed his regret that he hadn’t sustained the injury sooner so that fans “could see this team is much more than the quarterback.”
Even though they won the ACC, Florida State became the first undefeated Power 5 conference champion to be denied the opportunity to play for the national championship since the playoffs were instituted in 2014.
And Travis’ season-ending leg injury that occurred on Nov. 18 against North Alabama was the main reason that’s the case.
“Devastated,’’ Travis wrote on X on Sunday. “Heartbroken. In so much disbelief [right now], I wish my leg broke earlier in the season so y’all could see this team is much more than the quarterback. I thought results matter. 13-0 and this roster matches up across any team in those top 4 rankings. I am so
Even with a win at Florida with backup Tate Rodemaker at QB and then a victory over Louisville on Saturday in the ACC title game with freshman Brock Glenn under center, the committee selected Michigan, the undefeated Big Ten champion and Washington, the unbeaten Pac-12 champion, as well as Big 12 champion Texas and Alabama, the SEC champions, despite both Texas and Alabama having suffered a loss during the season.
It was deemed “unfathomable” by ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips that Florida State was left out of the playoffs.
Michael Alford, athletic director at FSU, declared that the committee had “failed college football.”
“What is the point of playing games?” asked Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell, who expressed his “disgust and infuriation” over the decision.
In the final CFP rankings for the regular season, Florida State was ranked No. 4, but Texas and Alabama both overtook them after the Longhorns defeated Oklahoma State to win the Big 12 and Alabama overcame No. 1 Georgia in the SEC championship game.
Following the selections, ESPN was informed by CFP selection committee chairman Boo Corrigan that “Florida State is a different team than it was the first 11 weeks.” The committee chose Florida State to finish fifth and Alabama to finish fourth when you consider the team they are now without Jordan Travis and the offensive dynamic he brings.
