Lance McCullers Jr. of the Astros will have surgery, the organization said, keeping him out of the field until 2023.
McCullers requires the removal of a bone spur and restoration of his right flexor tendon.
Lance McCullers Jr., the starting pitcher for the Houston Astros, will not be joining the rotation anytime soon. The team stated that he would require forearm surgery, which will prevent him from playing until the next season.
McCullers has been dealing with a nagging ailment this season. He hasn’t taken the pitch for a game in 2023.
The Astros said in a statement that McCullers will have a bone spur removed and his right flexor tendon rehabilitated.
During Game 4 of the Astros’ 2021 ALDS against the Chicago White Sox, McCullers sustained an arm injury.

“Lance worked extremely hard to return to the mound after the injury occurred in February,” Astros general manager Dana Brown said in the release. “This man is a warrior who made every effort to return.” But the ache would return every time he worked his way up to a higher pitch total off the mound. Though sad, we hope to see him back on the mound in the upcoming season.”
