Jillian Dempsey has signed a one-year contract with the Montreal PWHL.

With less than a week until PWHL training camps begin, Montreal has signed forward Jillian Dempsey, their sixth player and third draft pick, to a one-year contract.

Dempsey, 32, was Montreal’s 11th pick (66th overall) in the PWHL Draft. She was the NWHL/PHF’s all-time leading scorer, a three-time Isobel Cup champion, and Clarkson Cup champion. She has spent her entire hockey career representing a Boston-area team, and now is officially a member of the Montreal team.

Dempsey had 70 goals and 76 assists (146 points) in 142 career PHF/NWHL games. She was the captain of the Boston Pride for the last six seasons, and also captained Harvard University, where she played in the NCAA. She was also a point-per-game player in the CWHL with the Boston Blades, where she spent two seasons.

She is a legend in Boston women’s hockey, and now she will be on the other side of a long-standing and heated rivalry.

There are some members of the Habs organization who have ties to Boston. Harris, Struble, Tuch, Newhook, Matheson, Kovacevic, Farrell, and Hutson (to name a few) all played for a team in Massachusetts. Hughes studied and resided in Boston, where his son plays for Northeastern, while Gorton worked for the Bruins. It’s already the Montreal Bostonians.
