A clear and shocking announced…….

Broncos Name Sean Payton’s New Coaching Staff
The coaching staff that Sean Payton brought in to help turn the franchise around was made public by the Denver Broncos.

The Denver Broncos took a while to get there, but Sean Payton revealed the team’s new coaching staff on Saturday. Payton was previously connected to several of the Broncos’ coaching hires during his tenure with the New Orleans Saints.

Let’s examine the coaches that the Broncos have officially hired.

Interpretation: It was anticipated that Lombardi would assume a “coordinator-type role,” and this ends up being the major one. Alongside him as the offensive coordinator will be Morton, who will help with pass-game coordination.

Back in New Orleans, Morton coached Payton’s wide receivers from 2015 to 2016. Payton serves as the play-caller and main source of inspiration for the offense, which will be guided, organized, taught, and game-planned by Lombardi and Morton.

Colbert played one season as a wide receiver with the Broncos under Mike Shanahan (2008). USC was Colbert’s final coaching position.

Another former player who contributed to the Saints’ Super Bowl victory is Strief. He inherits a disarrayed Broncos offensive line, which may need to fill up to three starting holes up front.

The Broncos news release noticeably lacks a quarterbacks and running backs coach. It appears that those are the only offensive positions still up for filling.

Analysis: A significant portion of Broncos supporters are disappointed that Joseph is returning to the Mile High City. It will take time to see what defensive returns Joseph can muster, but since his unsuccessful two-year run as Denver’s head coach, he has maintained a solid reputation as a coordinator.

Dixon and Parker were part of Payton’s coaching staff from the previous season. The special challenges that the 2022 season presented to both coaches allowed them to outperform their coverage.

It will be intriguing to watch what output Manusky and Wilhoite can get from the linebackers and what Baron Browning’s future holds. Will Browning go inside or continue to play as an outside “backer”?

As the coordinator, Kotwica will have a supervisor in Westhoff, a veteran Payton lieutenant with a prominent post in Denver. The Broncos are hoping that the veteran guidance of Westhoff and Kotwica together can turn the team around, as they haven’t seen much performance from the third phase in recent years.

Analysis: The Broncos have finally made significant changes to their strength and conditioning program. With Jones providing assistance, Dalrymple, a distinguished coach in the field, takes over the reins.

Payton also lured Beau Lowery, a former lieutenant, away from LSU, designating him Vice President of Player Health and Performance, even though it doesn’t appear to be a coaching job. Given how severely the injury bug has damaged the Broncos over the previous four years, the only direction left for this new coaching and managerial team is up.
