Ex-NFL player Sergio Brown missing as mum found dead in homicide

A former NFL player is missing and his mother was found dead in a suspected homicide after relatives told Illinois authorities they couldn’t reach either family member Saturday.

Ex-pro football player Sergio Brown, 35, and his 73-year-old mother Myrtle Brown were reported missing by family Saturday, Maywood police said, according to local reports.

After a search was launched for the pair, Myrtle Brown was found dead near a creek behind her home, authorities said, WGN-TV reported.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office classified her death a murder on Sunday.
According to investigators, she died as a result of multiple injuries sustained during an assault.
The dead victim’s sister, Sheila Simmons, informed WGN-TV that she last spoke with her sister on Thursday. Myrtle and Sergio Brown were reported missing to her early Saturday.

Sergio Brown, a former safety, played 94 games with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills, among others.

The Notre Dame alum attended Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois, a Chicago suburb.

Sergio’s brother, Nick Brown, asked him to return home in a Facebook post, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“I want him to know I love him and beg him to come home,” Nick Brown wrote.
