Chandler Zavala of the Carolina Panthers has been released from the hospital and is returning home with the team after being carted off the field in Detroit.

Zavala suffered a serious neck injury in Sunday’s game against the Lions at Ford Field, collapsing face-first on a normal blocking assignment after head-to-head collision and remaining there for several minutes.

The Panthers’ sidelines were evacuated, and the game was halted while he was restrained in a neck brace and supported by a backboard.

Zavala reportedly raised a thumbs up as he was carried off the field, indicating that he was conscious.

After being transferred to a nearby hospital, NFL reporter Tom Pelissero confirmed that the 24-year-old was released later that evening.

Zavala appeared to go down in the game after a routine blocking assignment on a running play

Zavala reportedly raised a thumbs up as he was carried off the field, indicating that he was conscious.

After being transferred to a nearby hospital, NFL reporter Tom Pelissero confirmed that the 24-year-old was released later that evening.

He attended Fairmont State University in West Virginia, where he played Division II football.

Covid transferred to North Carolina State because Fairmont State chose to abandon their football season in 2020 owing to Covid.

He was named first-team All-ACC for the Wolfpack.
