BURNLEY STRIKE LOAN WITH OBLIGATION TO BUY DEAL FOR SOUMAÏLA COULIBALY
L’Équipe report this morning that newly promoted to the Premier League side Burnley have struck an agreement to sign 19-year-old central defender Soumaïla Coulibaly from Borussia Dortmund.
The France U20s international joined BVB in 2021 and shortly thereafter signed a professional contract, arriving from PSG on a free transfer after the player refused pro terms with the French capital side. Coulibaly made just two professional appearances with Dortmund before suffering an ACL injury during his first few weeks in the Ruhr valley.
Vincent Kompany’s side have struck a loan with quasi-obligation to buy deal for the player. This means that based on the player making a small number of appearances, the 2022/23 Championship winners will be forced to acquire the talent for €15m.
Talks have been ongoing for several weeks over a deal to facilitate the move for Coulibaly, who was under contract with Dortmund until 2026. The player will shortly undergo a medical to complete the move.

Burnley have ‘started talks’ with club to sign 19-year-old defender – Kompany a huge fan of youngster
Seen as one of the big up and coming defensive talents in France, Ismaël Doukouré eventually left Valenciennes to sign with RC Strasbourg.
The €1.5m deal was widely seen as a bargain, as everyone knew he would quickly grow, and his first season in Ligue 1 confirmed that, as he made 29 appearances, impressing everyone along the way.
That’s why the news that Burnley, managed by a former great centre-back in Vincent Kompany, are interested, courtesy of Foot Mercato, is no surprise.
The Belgian manager is trying his best to bolster his club at Turf Moor ahead of his first season in the Premier League, and he clearly sees the 19-year-old as a player he can mould.
It’s stated Burnley have ‘set their sights’ on the young defender as his profile is one that Kompany ‘likes a lot’ as he sees himself managing the player next season.
While the article itself doesn’t offer much detail other than the fact Doukouré is a player the Clarets want this summer, the tweet from journalist Santi Aouna suggests a bit more is taking place.
That’s because he states that Burnley have ‘started talks’ with Strasbourg regarding a potential move, although for how much isn’t said.
What can be expected, however, is that the Ligue 1 side, should they agree to sell Doukouré to the Turf Moor residents, will be making a very nice profit.
