Gun forward receives mixed news as missing Hawks return
Jack Gunston’s injury was not as severe as first thought.

After re-injuring his right ankle for the second time in a month on Sunday, HAWTHORN star Jack Gunston escaped with minor injuries.

After Darcy Moore landed on the back of Gunston’s leg in a contest, the All-Australian forward clutched for his foot in the third quarter of Collingwood’s loss at the MCG, before playing out the game under duress.

Although scans have revealed no structural damage, Gunston is scheduled to miss the trip to Perth this weekend and return after the mid-season bye.

‘IRONIC’ TURNS ICONIC Hawk is starting to walk the walk.

Gunston was a surprise inclusion for the round 12 encounter, having missed only two games due to a medial ankle strain that prompted him to be substituted out of the round nine loss to Richmond.

This ankle injury is thought to be less severe than the one suffered three weeks ago.

While the news is better than expected, the injury setback extends a painful period for the Victorian, who played only one game in 2021 due to a serious back issue.

After missing the previous two weeks due to concussion, new ruckman Max Lynch should be eligible for this weekend’s trip to Western Australia to face Fremantle.

The 23-year-old has had a difficult first season at Waverley Park, appearing in only six of 12 games owing to concussion and health and safety rules, among other minor setbacks.

After missing the game against the Magpies due to concussion, rebounding defender Jack Scrimshaw may also be available for selection.

coveted selection Josh Ward missed his third straight game due to a concussion suffered in the VFL, but the 2021 pick No.7 has a chance to play this weekend, with Box Hill taking on Port Melbourne.

Before they can return to competition, all three must pass concussion tests at Waverley Park this week.

After impressive performances for Box Hill on Sunday, axed midfielders James Worpel (31 disposals, 13 clearances, and five tackles) and Finn Maginness (35 disposals and four clearances) both put their hands up for recall.

Hawthorn’s main training session is on Wednesday, ahead of the journey to Perth on Friday to face the championship contenders.
