Everton transfer update: Joel Piroe wants Goodison move from Swansea amid cheap fee verdict – Paul Brown

Joel Piroe is “interested in joining” Everton and would not be an expensive deal to do, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Swansea striker has netted 41 goals in the Championship in the past two seasons, and was subject to talks between the two clubs over a potential swap deal for Ellis Simms.

But with the Toffees forward now on the way to Coventry instead [Fabrizio Romano, 6 July] it appears that Dutchman Piroe, 23, is still a possibility for Goodison Park and his affordability is thought to be realistic.

Former Daily Star journalist Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “Piroe is certainly an interesting one and it seems that Everton have done their groundwork there, because his camp are saying that Everton are one of the clubs that he’d be interested in joining.

“He’s only got a year left on his contract, as far as I’m aware, which means there wouldn’t be a huge fee involved.”

Could do a lot worse

Everton need help up front and have done for at least a year, so it is concerning that forward options are continuing to leave without replacements tied up.

More than one new goal threat is surely required this summer, and with cash not thought to be plentiful a low-cost move for Piroe looks like something that might make sense.

A lack of Premier League experience always leaves the door open to players being unable to make the step up, but he has definitely proven to be one of the primary scorers in the second tier and is sure to make the jump sooner or later.

If he were to take to the top flight like an Ollie Watkins or an Ivan Toney it would be a bargain to get him at this stage for a low fee.

Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell are surely going to have to be very smart with whatever cash they have at their disposal, but with the recent track record in the transfer market in mind it appears that a Piroe deal has already cleared two major hurdles.

A player who doesn’t cost huge money, and crucially one that wants the move, is surely somebody they will be considering, so perhaps he can be part of the strike force next season.
